This year Big Little Theatre School will “come of age” and turn 21 years old.
Back in the 1990′s Michelle Guy was teaching P.E. and Drama at St. Thomas Garnet’s School, and Colin Billing was working with the locally based Big Little Theatre Company as Musical Director. Michelle was running “Guy’s School of Performing Arts” alongside her position at St. Thomas Garnet’s School and invited Colin to join her for some workshop sessions in musical theatre.
One thing led to another and in February 1996 the students of “Guy’s School” were invited to participate in a show produced by Big Little Theatre Company in support of the Mayor of Bournemouth’s Charities at the Winter Gardens Theatre. The children performed to great acclaim and this in turn led to the founding of the Big Little Youth Theatre in September 1996 – which in the fullness of time became merged with “Guy’s School” to form the BIGLITTLE Theatre School.
And twenty-one years later it’s definitely time to celebrate the journey so far and look forward to the future. Aside from the school’s normal activities during this academic year, (ArtsFest and Broadway Showtunes) we will be holding two very special events in 2017.
FIRSTLY, on Saturday 13 May we are having a Birthday Party at The Pavilion Ballroom with a live band and other entertainment and lots of memorabilia, photos, posters etc. from the last twenty-one years. There will be a pay bar all night and birthday cake too! It will be a night for past and present BIGLITTLE families, students, staff and associates to socialise, reminisce and celebrate all that has made BIGLITTLE what it is today. Admission is by ticket only available from the Big Little office Tel: 01202 434499.
SECONDLY, WE ARE HOLDING A FANTASTIC 21ST BIRTHDAY CONCERT
AT THE PAVILION THEATRE ON SUNDAY 29 OCTOBER 2017
The concert will bring together very many former students who will join the current youth theatre in celebrating this landmark with a programme that will feature all the biggest hits from the world of musical theatre, plus some special moments from BIGLITTLE history. The show will feature a full orchestra on stage and a choir of returning former students, plus our usual mix of song and dance!
We’re all very excited for what promises to be an amazing year and further information, and more exciting news will be available in due course.
